How to Find a Pediatrician in Atlanta
What new parents should look for when choosing a pediatrician in the Atlanta metro.
Major pediatric networks
The Atlanta metro is anchored by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), the dominant pediatric system. Most independent pediatric practices have CHOA hospital privileges. Emory Children's Center and Northside Hospital also have strong pediatric networks.
What to look for
- Board certification in pediatrics
- Hospital affiliation with CHOA (Egleston or Scottish Rite)
- Accepts your insurance
- After-hours nurse line and weekend sick visits
- Lactation support if you're a new parent
- Patient portal for vaccine records and messaging
When to start looking
Interview 2–3 pediatricians during your third trimester. Most practices offer free 'meet & greet' visits. Confirm they're accepting new patients with your delivery date and insurance.
Insurance and Medicaid
Most Atlanta pediatricians accept BCBS of Georgia, Aetna, Cigna, United, and Tricare. Georgia Medicaid (Peach State, Amerigroup, CareSource, Wellcare) is widely accepted at independent practices and CHOA-affiliated groups.
